A lot of plants emit oxygen during the day and consume it
during the night which does not help you get restful sleep at all. Instead, check out these 10 plants that can help you fall
asleep faster and stay sleeping restfully!
1) Lavender
By now you guys probably know I love lavender because of its many uses! It’s well known for helping to ease anxiety and help you sleep, but it’s actually been proven to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep and decrease rapid eye movement during sleep to help you get the most restful night possible!
2) Peace Lily
I love lilies, but I had never heard of a peace lily until
recently! It actually has a lot of benefits other than helping you sleep; it adds
humidity to dry rooms and filters the air. Apparently, these plants are super
simple to care for too, you’ll only need to water them about once a week.
3) Snake Plant
Snake plants are very easy to take care of and they only
need watered every 14 days or so! This plants emits higher oxygen levels than
most plants, continues to do so overnight, and removes a few different toxins
from the air, making it one of the most common household plants.
4) Jasmine
Jasmine has a sweet smell similar to lavender, and it also
shares some of the benefits. Jasmine has calming properties to help you fall
asleep quicker and cuts down on tossing and turning.
5) Spider Plant
Not only does the spider plant look kind of like the snake
plant, they share the same filtering capabilities! Studies show that the plant
removes 90% of formaldehyde from the air— even if you don’t have sleeping
problems, you might consider keeping one in the house!
6) Aloe Vera
This is deemed one of the top air-improving plants by NASA.
It also emits oxygen throughout the night, which is great for sleep apnea, and
requires about pretty much no upkeep. Plus, you can use the plant for its many
other benefits!
7) Gardenia
Gardenia is another plant that smells great and helps with
sleep. In fact, one study showed its effectiveness to be similar to Valium in
helping people fall asleep and relieving anxiety. It is a little bit harder to
care for than the rest of these plants, though, so it might not be a great
option if its your first plant!
8) Gerbera Daisies
These daisies may not be the most effective option for helping you sleep, but they are so
beautiful I had to include them! Daisies, like Aloe Vera, release oxygen all
through the night which help promotes a good night's sleep!
9) English Ivy
English Ivy can spread like fire if you plant it outside,
but indoors you should be able to keep it under control. This is THE plant for
air purification. In fact, astronauts take it into space because its that effective. It is really important
to remember that its poisonous though, so if you have tiny children or a house
full of nosy pets it might not be for you!
10) Valerian
Valerians are another beautiful and fragrant option to help
you fall asleep. Centuries ago the flowers were used for perfumes, but newer
research has proved that the scent alone can help you fall asleep faster. This
plant belongs by a window, because it needs plenty of sunlight, but it should
be a pretty easy addition to your home!
Before getting a plant for your bedroom to help promote
sleep, you should definitely look into the upkeep, but adding a little bit of
nature to your home is a great way to purify the air and help you get the rest
you are looking for!
